Mimien Aminah S, S.S., M.A. Kata kunci: Marxism, class difference, alienation, hegemony, symbol Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian sastra yang menggunakan teori dari Carl Marx untuk menemukan perbedaan social, alienation, dan hegemoni pada novel The Hunger Games. Fenomena ini sangat menarik untuk di teliti dalam rangka mengetahui perbedaan social, alienation, dan hegemoni dalam novel ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan sastra dimana data-datanya didapatkan dari jurnal, pendapat pembaca, dan buku. Penelitian ini juga menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif sebagai metodologi penelitian dan novel dijadikan sebagai data utama. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari tahu perbedaan social yang muncul dalam novel Hunger Games dan bagaimana alienation dan hegemoni digambarkan dalam novel Hunger Games. Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa novel ini dapat menggambarkan teori-teori dari perbedaan social, alienation, dan hegemoni dengan baik. Berdasarkan beberapa penggalan cerita dalam novel, telah ditemukan beberapa fenomena dengan menggunakan pemilihan kiata-kata yang tepat yang ditulis oleh penulisnya. Dalam novel ini, penulis menggambarkan perbedaan kehidupan yang sangat mencolok di Capitol sebagai kaum kelas atas dan distrik 12 sebagai kaum kelas bawah. Perbedaan tersebut dapat terlihat dari kondisi ekonomi mereka, penampilan, makanan, lingkungan, dan pengetahuan dari karakter dimana alienation dapat dilihat dari alam dan aktivitas pada karakter utamanya, Katniss. Alienation dialami oleh karakter utama yang didukung aksi hegemoni yang dilakukan oleh Capitol sejak peraturan yang mengikat diterapkan dalam distrik. |

Mimien Aminah S, S.S., M.A. Keywords: Marxism, class difference, alienation, hegemony, symbol This study is a literature study which uses the Carl Marx theory as the theory to find the social difference, alienation, and hegemony in the novel The Hunger Games. This issue is very interesting to be dug in order to know how the social difference, alienation, and hegemony depicted in a novel. This research applies library research in which the data are about the journals, other opinions, and books. This study also applies descriptive qualitative method as the research method and concerns to the novel as the primary data. This research purposes to find out how social difference is depicted in The Hunger Games novel and how alienation and hegemony are depicted in The Hunger Games novel. The result of this study showed that the novel delivered the theory of the social difference, alienation, and hegemony well. Based on the scenes in the novel, the stories contained the issues and it could be found by using codes of the words used by the authors. In the novel, the author described the huge difference of life of the Capitol as the bourgeois and the District 12 as the proletarian. The difference could be seen from the way of their economic conditions, appearances, the foods, the environments, and the knowledge of the characters while the alienation could be seen from the nature and the activities of the main character, Katniss. The alienation happened to the main character supported by the act of the hegemony done by the Capitol since the stricted rules were applied in the districts. . |
