Kata kunci: sosiolinguistik, kata tabu, film Crash Penelitian yang berjudul “Analysis of Taboo Words in Crash Movie (A Sociolinguistic Approach)” ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tipe dan fungsi tabu yang ditemukan pada film Crash. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualiatif untuk menganalisis data dengan cara menjelaskan ujaran yang mengandung tabu untuk menentukan tipe dengan menggunakan teori Batistella (2005) dan fungsi tabu berdasarkan teori Warhdaugh (2006). Kajian yang digunakan yang digunakan adalah sosiolinguistik. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa 4 tipe tabu yang ditemukan di film Crash berjumlah 25 data yaitu epithet (17), profanity (3), obscenity (2), dan vulgarity (3) dengan fungsi pada setiap tipenya yaitu untuk menarik perhatian (2), untuk menunjukan penghinaan (10), untuk menjadi provokatif (10), dan untuk mengejek otoritas (3). Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa tipe tabu yang paling banyak digunakan pada film Crash adalah epithet. Selain itu, fungsi yang sering digunakan adalah untuk menunjukan penghinaan dan untuk menjadi provokatif. Hal tersebut sangat sesuai dengan tema pada film Crash yaitu adanya kesenjangan sosial yang terjadi di Amerika. Untuk penelitian selanjutnya, peneliti diharapkan untuk melakukan penelitia yang lebih spesifik mengenai tabu, seperti analisis vulgarity dan profanity yang digunakan oleh pengguna 9gag.com menggunakan teori dari Geoffrey Hughes (2015). |

Keywords: sociolinguistic, taboo words, Crash movie The research entitled “An Analysis of Taboo Words in Crash Movie (A Sociolinguistic Approach)” aimed at analyzing the taboo words types and functions in Crash movie. This research used descriptive qualitative method to analyze data by describing the utterances containing taboo words to find out the types by using Batistella’s theory (2005) and functions of taboo words based on Wardhaugh’s theory (2006). I used sociolinguistics as the approach. There are two objectives of this research. The result of this research reveals 4 types of taboo words in Crash movie (25 data) they are, epithet (17), profanity (3), obscenity (2), and vulgarity (3) where functions on each type; to draw attention to oneself (2), to show contempt (10), to be provocative (10), and to mock authority (3). In brief, the dominant type of taboo words in Crash movie is epithet. Meanwhile, the dominant functions are to show contempt and to be provocative. It fits very well with the theme of the movie where Crash movie shows racism in America. For further research, other researchers are expected to conduct the analysis of specific type of taboo words research such as An Analysis of Vulgarity and Profanity Used by 9gag.com Users by applying Geoffrey Hughes’s theory (2015). |
